Egyptian FM praises Arab FMs decision on Sudan

CAIRO, July 20 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Gheit said Sunday the decision of Arab foreign ministers on Sudan at Saturday's emergency meeting will surely help reach a solution for the Sudanese crisis.

Abul Gheit told reporters that the decision will allow the Arab League to exert more effort to solve the dispute between Sudan and the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Darfur.

The summiteers indicated that a just political solution for the crisis should be a priority, he stressed.

The Arab Foreign ministers' slamming of the accusation of ICC's top prosecutor against the Sudanese President shows that there is a public opinion consensus rejecting the accusation and considering it biased and unbalanced, he said.

Meanwhile, Abul Gheit urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to bear its responsibility in preserving the stability of Sudan.

The final communique of the Arab Foreign ministers meeting highlighted Saturday the importance of respecting Sudan's sovereignty and unity and called for supporting peace and reconciliation efforts among Sudanese factions.

The communique also warned against sending a negative messages to Sudanese rebel movements which might bring determination in the situation and a rejection of efforts at political settlement.
