Colonial powers eyeing to crumble Sudan: Iran

LONDON, July 22 (IranMania) - Iran's President Ahmadinejad terms International Criminal Court's verdict against the Sudanese leader as a pretext to divide the country into pieces, PressTV reported.

"Colonial powers seek to cut Sudan into pieces in their own ways. They do not want the country to play a constructive role in Africa and the Muslim world," Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with the visiting Sudanese official Ghazi Salah al-Din on Monday.

Iran's President described the ICC authorities as the people who did not react to hundreds of crime against humanity committed by former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, as well as the bombardment of a wedding ceremony in Afghanistan.

Such post-World War II institutions as the ICC are colonial-inspired and are set up to support the superpowers' interests, Ahmadinejad said.

They, however, are reaching the end of the line as no nation puts its trust in them anymore.

Salah al-Din meanwhile presented al-Bashir's written message to President Ahmadinejad, briefing him on latest developments in the largest African state.

He also voiced support for Tehran's efforts to access peaceful nuclear technology, saying that the technology will benefit the entire Muslim world.

The International Criminal Court's (ICC) prosecutor charged Sudan's president on Monday with masterminding a campaign of genocide in Darfur, killing 35,000 people and persecuting 2.5 million refugees.

ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo asked the court for an arrest warrant for President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, the most senior figure pursued by the court since it was set up in 2002.
