Dr. Ismail holds UN responsible for weakness of UNAMID forces in Darfur

Khartoum, Aug. 13 (SUNA)- The Presidential Advisor, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, has held the United Nations responsible for the weakness of UNAMID forces in Darfur because the organization did not transport troops from Ethiopia and Egypt to Darfur. In a press statement after his meeting Tuesday with the visiting American envoy for Sudan, Richard Williamson, Dr. Ismail said that he acquainted the envoy with the efforts of Sudan government toward completion of the UNAMID forces for Darfur. He said that he and the American envoy have discussed ways to resume the Sudanese - American dialogue and the possibility to fix a date for resumption of the talks between the two countries. Meanwhile, the American envoy called on the United Nations to exert more efforts to complete UNAMID forces in Darfur and to provide them with the required assistance. Williamson said that he got informed on the situation in Darfur and Abyei during his visit to them. He expressed his satisfaction over the situation in Abyei, indicating that Abyei issue is in its way for final solution in accordance with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

The American envoy has appreciated the initiative of the people of Sudan for solution of Darfur issue, stating that the United States is awaiting the start of implementation of this initiative in a positive manner on ground that it is concerned in the first place with the solution of Darfur issue.
