Sudan, US agree on joining efforts for a comprehensive peace in Darfur

KHARTOUM, Aug 14 (KUNA) --
Sudan and United States agreed on Thursday to work together for a broad and comprehensive peace in the troubled region of Darfur, including exerting efforts to improve the security and humanitarian situation there.

Richard Williamson, the US special envoy to Sudan, told reporters after talks with the Sudanese President's Assistant for Darfur Affairs Naf'e Ali Naf'e that his country is "completely ready to provide any type of support needed for the peace process in Darfur." Earlier, the US official toured Sudanese territories like Abyei and Darfur which concentrated efforts to push for a peaceful solution.
The US official indicated that there was a progress in Abyei region and conflict between north and south Sudan.

Meanwhile, Sudanese foreign ministry official Ambassador Abdul-Baset Badawi said his meeting with Williamson focused on exchanging points of view and developments in Sudan's troubled regions.
Two days ago, the US, said Williamson, believed the Abuja peace agreement about Darfur was a good instrument to enforce peace in the troubled province.
He called on all Sudanese parties to be involved in active political negotiations to end the suffering of the people of Darfur.
